Second Trump Impeachment: Is this America?

Updated: Aug 6, 2021

What's really interesting about this second historic Impeachment Trial is that many Republicans are; according to news reports, not paying attention, not in their seats and/or allegedly focusing on other work as the trial takes place.

Democrats, on the other hand, are constantly showing horrific images and audio recordings of Donald Trump and his treasonous thugs, pillaging and pissing on our democracy. All the while asking the question; "Is this our America?"

Donald J. Trump is literally the "Anti-Christ" my grandfather preached about during his sermons on Revelations. It's scary, but my grandfather's fiery words are resonating truth through this country like a plague. This Anti-Christ has mobilized half this country and indoctrinated them into believing the second coming of a Civil War.

My grandfather preached that "...Blood will be spilled in the streets!" I used to think it was mythological. A fire and brimstone, horror story he made up for dramatic effect. Now I realize it's coming into fruition and those that are weak, continue to support and be led by those that are insanely wicked.

African Americans have been in this unfortunate situation countless times before. Where the evidence is overwhelmingly apparent that crimes against humanity have taken place. Yet, those on trial, who have been White and privileged, have been acquitted (countless times) of all charges.

What makes this trial any different? When you have Republican "public," Officials who took an oath to, "Solemnly support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign AND domestic," disregarding their official duties to the American public. Republican officials who are heartless. Who ignore facts and support treason. What makes this any different?

Conviction of Donald J. Trump requires a 2/3 vote in the Senate. That means, 17 Senators out of the 50, need to actively listen to the facts and vote their conscious. Unfortunately, that's not likely to happen. (However, I'm keeping HOPE alive!)

So, the Democrats ask, "Is this America?" The answer is, "Yes." And attempting to appeal to the consciousness of the weak and corrupt are not going to change that.

Now that everything has been clearly laid out, the bigger question remains, "What are those of us who aim for a more amicable, inclusive and equal America, going to do about it?"
